Free (feat. Emma Rose Williamson)
This track is one I am extremely proud of for different reasons than the other tracks on the album. I've never though myself the best at writing ballads, but for probably the first time I am genuinely pleased with how this turned out. The chord progressions, the arrangement... everything, really. And featuring my sister, Emma Rose, to the track was basically a triple bonus, but that's an understatement. The song was noticeably inspired by the smooth but groove-driven RnB tracks of the late 90's and the early 2000's. I put my own little spin on it and made sure the kick and bass were super punchy when finishing the mix. The lyrics themselves kind of go back to the Edge of the Universe project days a few years ago, talking about dreams and dreamed up worlds and fantasies. I wanted it to feel kind of nostalgic and magical and I think I achieved that. And lyrically, it's probably one of the better songs I've written. But even musically, this is definitely one of my favorite songs songwriting-wise. My goal is create music that's unforgettable. There are some songs you just never forget, and I hope this track, as well as the entire album, may be one of them.
