In late 2015, Sam & Violet realized something had shifted in their songwriting. They weren’t just writing another batch of songs for another record. The Table, as it would be called, was their chance to let go and wrestle with the hard questions about God, love, and life, and to embark on a journey through song, to find a commonplace, a community, a table where this could happen. From the haunting and grand declarations of the opening track, “The Blood,” to “Billowing Smoke” reminding us of the power of faith in our darkest valleys, to the dramatic conclusion of “Love” and a call for an embrace around a common table of humanity- the urgency of this duo to shout from rooftops and welcome you into their journey, is palpable from the first note to final reverberation.
