My name is Marla Sgro. My mother is Irish French and my father was from ITALY. I was raised on music by my father who played accordion at every holiday dinner and every nursing home he could. He played Italian music to me while I fell asleep as a child. I studied music growing up in band and symphony and classical singing. But I left the school and hooked up with some guitar rock musicians who l learned from my watching and working with who were geniuses. 1993 I wrote a folk type of music and then by 1994 I was playing guitar on the back porch of my apartment . I wrote my first album POCKET FULL OF NAILS on a karaoke machine and recorded my harmonies on cassette with a microphone duct taped to a lampstand. It was a local hit including POCKET FULL OF NAILS, GUILTY, BUMPS AND BRUISES( co written by Tonya tTuttle link) AND Symtomatic which was on Pittsburgh 105.9 the X album for AIDS . I soon opened up for SIR Elton John, John Cougar Mellancamp, and sang with Wild Cherry, "Play That Funky Music," for their concerts. Then played for the Pittsburgh PIrates . And Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Pavilion. My first cd POCKET FULL OF NAILS is not released but it is about verbal and mental abuse and I learned it saved a lot of people nearby my hometown. Its rock, folk, acoustic rap even! it was a 90s thing so check it out when it it released. My new song being released very soon is called "CORRUPTION". It is mainly about these days of evil and greed or corruption from ALL kinds of areas of life. Its is BOLD and I think its what everyone wants to hear. I was inspired first by a guy from Brooklyn, NY over the years growing up in a hard city lifestyle, small town, politicians, musicians, the streets, TV, Hollywood, etc. And my point in the song is to encourage us to stand up as moral, spiritually believing people , who do it POSITIVELY with values. Everyone feels we need change. When I sing this song, i'm actually sad. But I hope this song brings someone hope to stand up for what's right someday even if its just feeding a hungry person who lost his job due to "CORRUPTION".
