Joliet Bound
This is fine classic 30's blues from the pens of Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy. Denise musters up all her passion for a hard hitting song about how it felt to be on the way to and on the inside of Joliet's infamous prison along Highway 55 from Chicago. It was a challenge to arrange some rich block harmonies that would compliment the bluesy feel of the song and to match the reflective anger and regret that Denise conveys so well. The music behind the vocals is simple in style and the song strongly features Lucy on claw hammer banjo as she emulates her lifetime favourite Peggy Seeger. Karl plays bass as usual and has arranged what you hear.
