Terminus Audio continues to sample forward-thinking music around the globe with TMINUS020 - Bone Skippers - 'Corpse Fly / Bot Fly EP'. The Bone Skippers are an emerging two-man project comprised of the UK's Kenny Campbell and Canada's Huck Farper (who also produce their own solo work under their respective names). The music they create is sometimes sublime, sometimes unforgiving and abrasive - but never stays within the confines of a particular sound or genre. They have their own approach to electronic music that sends a resounding 'F**k You' to the proverbial rulebook. Picked up some time ago by label boss Jason Mills, this pair of songs has been waiting in the wings for its appropriate release. Not your typical dancefloor tracks, these are interesting and fresh in a sea of sometimes formulaic and 'safe' music. 'Corpse Fly' opens things up, a subdued atmospheric piece with an alternating kick, sporadic claps and a faint droning that resembles audio interference or a locked-up modem. Tough to describe but equally engrossing and hypnotic, this makes for a oddly serene introduction to the EP. Forward-thinking and organic are good descriptions one. 'Bot Fly' is the second number, and is an usual one with a quirky melody and an industrial-grade kick drum. Intricate hi-hat work and crunching effects flesh the track out as it marches forward at a steady clip. A track for those who enjoy electronic music not only intended for the dance floor, but music that also takes risks. Outside-of-the-box and a very nice production altogether.
