THE MONGRELS BIO: Cleansing the streets of punk ass *****es since 2001, The Mongrels are know for forcing their instruments to malfunction. Founding member, Singer/Rhythm guitar player Tim Avram played a few local shows, but with the 2004 addition of Drummer Shane Swank they really started rolling. They have been writing songs and touring throughout the US for 10 years and have opened for such notable national acts as Ozzy Osbourne, Danzig, Sepultura, Robert Bradly's Blackwater Surprise, The Meatmen, Michale Graves of The Misfits, Question Mark and the Mysterians and more. In 2005 they even played the legendary CBGB's in New York City right before it closed. Winner of The Review Music Awards "Rock Rookie of the Year" in 2004. After the passing of bass player Marx Arlo Dundas at the age of 29 in 2012, it seemed the band would be coming to an end. But the loss of Marx was just another reason to keep going, and GO HARD! After several lineup changes and with the addition of Lead Guitar player Charlie Cline from the band "Honky Tonk Zeros" in 2014 and the newest member Joe Balbaugh on Bass. The lineup is now complete and has never sounded better. PRESS: My vote for the most engaging and original artist is Tim Avram and his band the Mongrels. Avram has become an auteur of the dark side of life, vampires and deep cesspools of pain. The abyss calls but Avram won’t give it his face because he knows better. He has already crafted an album of punk classics to be added to the Mongrels’ catalog. I can’t wait to get my filthy mitts on that little treasure trove of truth from the dark side of the street. ~Bob Martin, Review Magazine Review of The Mongrels show when hey opened for legendary garage rock icons Question Mark and the Mysterians: With the crowd of fans assembling, the clouds opened up to a torrential rain storm. Due to the inclement and unpredictable weather the magnificent Mongrels - Tim Avram (guitar, vocals), Shane Swank (drums) and Ethan Murphy (bass) decided to move their show inside. The room was packed and the set was inspired. Avram opened with a straight up punk anthem You Could Be Alive. It has a dry humor and a bit of irony - great tune. He followed with G-DUB, a protest song about George Bush, political corruption and dropping the bomb, heady stuff. Act One is a song about wasting your life away by drinking. One Last day is about fallen friends, memories and loss. They even covered Pink Floyd's Time and pulled it off without a hitch. The last song Piss on the Lawn was a big local hit for the Mongrels.
