Where is Aaron Kaplan now? You’d be interested to hear that Aaron Kaplan began his musical career in California at the age of seven. What started out as quaint, once-a-week lessons, soon became an on going expression of artistic talent that no one could stop. Aaron's eclectic style stems from his interest in multicultural music and lyrics. His style crosses all genres: hip-hop, rock, classic rock, indie, classical, spoken-word, and reggae. Aaron's early music lessons have been described as precariously-stifling and while his need to push the limit with his lyrical style and rhythm made his early colleagues question his future as an artist, Aaron Kaplan continued to break musical boundaries. He says, "My mentors, relatives, and friends hadn't heard a style quite like mine. They weren't sure I had a future in music but the more they listened the more they wanted to listen. And soon other people started to listen too. And here we are today, one big crazy big happy-music loving family." But Aaron's style is farther reaching than that. Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and The Who, Sublime, Hootie and the Blowfish, R.E.M., Oasis have all been integral in creating his integrated rhythm style. The lyrics in Aaron's songs owe much gratitude to rock groups such as Death Cab for Cutie, Counting Crows, Jimmy Eat World, Snow Patrol, The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Aaron says, "It was the influence of the early 90's alternative rock, along with the classic-rock I loved, mixed with the darker, more sad, rock of post 9/11 America that led me to the style I've found now." Besides Aaron's innovation at the guitar, his lyrical skill draws you in even at first syllable. Listeners have expressed that it is impossible to pay too close attention to the words in Aaron's songs as they get better every time you play them. As Aaron grew as an artist he became more serious about his music writing and content. He soon found himself tempted to break free of the musical boundaries he had been taught as a child. He says, "I really wanted to break out of the rock n' roll mold that had been set by the darker rock of the early 2000's because, it was so dreary. I thought to myself if I moved into unknown musical territory I could make great music and people would listen to it. I guess that’s what people actually were looking for”. Lyrics like, "we're just so blind, to all most things / so what you see is important." is a self evident telling of Aaron Kaplan's insight and unbeknownst talent. The power of this track sets a standard for the next two tracks on the album. The next track, "One Love", is a tale of love found, lost, and then recovered. A spirited follow up to the first track, it leaves Aaron Kaplan's audience screaming for more. Heartfelt lines, "loves are lost / sometimes ripped away" and "look at me / let me in or else your dying / push it aside or fly" proves Aaron is a serious lyrical talent. The last song on the EP, "Fake it", is enthralling from the start. In the last half of the chorus, Aaron's lyrics tell of a young girls struggle in the world. "She said to make it in the city to survive / you've gotta fake it." Aaron confronts an emotional situation and leaves no mistake that his fans come first. The rhythms of the first and second songs flow quite seamlessly. The last track, stands as a mere abstracted sign of music to come.
