"Once Again" by Rachel Brown and the Beatnik Playboys is the latest CD by a North Ridgeville woman and friends who seemed to have carved out a little niche somewhere between country and blues. The CD, is a bluesy, boozy romp -- 15 songs that will stick in your head. "My Best Friend Is My Song" opens with a nice piano interlude, leading into some sweet lyrics about a lonely woman singing about the only thing that never let her down, her music. "Wind In My Hair" is an upbeat straight country song about the call of the open road. Brown, the lead singer, and author of most of the tunes, teaches music and choir at a middle school in Elyria. Her bio reveals she has a master in music education with an emphasis on on classical piano and choral. She's no novice to the stage, she started performing at the age of 12 and has opened for anybody who is anybody in country music including Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and The Judds. Over the years she has been part of several bands, most recently Hillbilly Idol and before that she has played with The Damn Band, New Frontier and Blue Moon Express.
