Fear of Flying has become a bit of a UK house institution in the last five years, releasing material from label co-owner and Underground Quality man BLM, Jozif, Drake & Griffiths, Shenoda and Schatrax while nurturing a hardcore fan base with very little promotion or fanfare. Always connecting with deep house aesthetics while firmly looking forward, the label's infrequent releases are buy-on-sight 12s for many, in no small part due to the label's prioritisation of vinyl product. Having released a beautiful, hypnotic 12 from Ivano Telepata ('I Think About You') earlier this year, the London-based imprint quickly set plans in motion for an LP which resulted in a smorgasbord of demos piling up before careful selection rendered 'True Colours' Flow was paramount for the label and artist, so it's not a surprise when listening to Telepata's mesmerising grooves slide together that 'True Colours' is an immersive affair that drags the listener though, albeit in a gentle, cosseting manner. A warm dubby feel permeates every track on offer here, whether it be in the punchy, clubbier tracks or the stripped, broken pieces but it's the ebb and flow of melodies that really draw attention throughout. Never harsh and always fluid, the use of melodies via samples and synths in 'True Colours' is always emotive and dreamlike, occasionally punctured by clever contrasts or seams of funk which add weight when needed.
