But with The Edge, Goldsmith reclaims the innovative spirit of his finest scores, employing a series of striking glissandi effects that lend the music a bracingly experimental edge. Themes like "Stalking" and "Deadfall" create the kind of palpable suspense and menace that can make or break the onscreen narrative. And as usual, Goldsmith is just as effective with nuance as he is with bombast, lacing even his most subtle melodies with dark portent.
