Out of print for many years, Tim Story's masterful fourth album is now available for download on iTunes, and other digital vendors, with a CD reissue on the way. Definitively remastered, "Wheat and Rust"'s textured electronics and grand piano have never sounded better. Released just months before Tim signed with Windham Hill and released his pivotal "Glass Green", and a year before his Grammy-nominated work on "Legend of Sleepy Hollow", "Wheat and Rust" was Tim's last for the European label Uniton/Cicada. "The last album for Uniton was the warm, rounded Wheat and Rust (1986). Its congenial Howard Hodgkin sleeve almost gives us a sense of place, but not quite - typical of Tim's music. There's something quietly majestic about "The Secret Rhythm," for example, conjuring up images of prairies or fantastic waterfalls...that is until the sound of something like a shakuhachi flute transports us to the privacy of a Japanese ornamental garden. Yet it is less a sense of place and more a sense of feeling which characterizes Tim's music, no more so than on "Chanarambie," included here."
